On the back of the government’s disappointing decision to stop winter fuel payments for around 10 million pensioners in England and Wales, they have now announced an extension to the Household Support Fund for the next 6 months. Originally due to end in September, the Household Support Fund (worth £421m in England) will now run until March 2025.
The fund is distributed through local councils and is designed to help people most in need with the cost of their energy, food and water. Many councils also use the Fund beyond emergency support, including working with local charities and community groups to provide residents with key appliances, school uniforms, cookery classes, and items to improve energy efficiency in the home.
Pensioners, and others struggling with the cost of living over the colder months should contat their local council to see what support may be available. You can also contact GMMAP and we will discuss all your options. Getting in touch is easy. You can find your local office or fill in the contact form.
